Case study

Cafe Laundrette

Two branches, no shared view of stock or sales.

The problem

Two locations, two counts, and no agreement between them. Staff reconciled by hand each evening and still could not say what was in the building without walking through it.

The counter made it worse: taking payment and recording stock were separate acts, so every sale created a second job for somebody later.

What I did

  1. 01

Put point of sale and inventory on one system

A sale at the counter is a stock movement — not a second record to reconcile.

  2. 02

Deployed across both branches on one backend

Each branch sees the other's stock, so nobody reorders what already exists down the road.

  3. 03

    Added a dedicated preparation screen

Staff work an order queue by stage — wash, dry, iron, deliver — instead of shouting across the room.

  4. 04

    Centralised backend management

Pricing, products, and reporting maintained once and applied to both locations.

From the system

Point of sale register showing the live product grid with prices in GBP and the opening-cash dialog
The register staff use, with the live product grid and opening-cash control.
Preparation screen with Wash, Dry, Iron and Deliver lanes showing a live order ticket
The preparation screen — orders move through stages instead of through conversation.

Outcome

  • 2

    Branches on one backend

  • TBC

    Evening reconciliation time saved

  • TBC

    Stock accuracy after rollout

Both branches now run on a single system with a shared product catalogue and a live stock position. The before-and-after figures sit with the client; they are not published here until confirmed.

Artifacts produced
